The coin commemorates World Youth Day 2023, which this year will be held in July/August in the Portuguese capital Lisbon. At the center of the coin is a cross, surrounded by stylized figures of pilgrims, also symbolizing the shape of the globe, which is embraced by two hands. At the top of the coin is the inscription "Jornada Mundial da Juventude Lisboa 2023," signifying World Youth Day Lisbon 2023, and at the bottom of the coin is indicated the country of issue (Portugal), the mint (Casa da Moeda) and the author of the design (João Duarte).
