Description: Born in Zante, Andreas Kalvos (1792-1869) was one of the most prominent poets of the modern era in Greece. In his poetry, he combined the ideals of a solid neoclassical education and romanticism, ancient Greek influences and a living folk dialect, as well as the revolutionary ideas of his time and his own vision. The coin features a portrait of Andreas Kalvos. Around the left edge of the inset is his name written in Greek letters, "ΑΝΔΡΕΑΣ ΚΑΛΒΟΣ 1792–1869", flanked by the year of mintage and the mint's palmette. Around the right edge is the text "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" (Hellenic Republic), and next to it is the monogram of the coin's designer, Georgios Stamatopoulos. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the European Union flag.
